Publicación Acceso abierto A knowledge base of language assessment literacy for Colombian teachers of English(Universidad de los Andes, 2022-05-24) Hernández Ocampo, Sonia Patricia; Truscott de Mejía, Anne Marie; 198983; Tejada Sánchez, Martha Isabel; Neumann, Heike; Educación para el bilingüismo y el multilingüismoThe need to train language teachers in assessment has been identified worldwide. Besides, scholars have stated the importance of identifying teacher cognition so that learning of new content can be more effective. Considering these two aspects, this research proposes a knowledge base of language assessment literacy (LAL) for language teacher education programs in Colombia. To do so, I first determined what LAL should mean to the language teachers in the context for their practice, the classroom. Second, I analyzed how pre-service teachers were being trained in assessment in their programs, how they were being assessed in their English classes, as well as both pre- and in-service teachers' cognition about assessment. I used a variety of instruments to collect information in three cases that this qualitative multiple-case study was based on. These instruments-interviews, class observations, think-aloud protocols, questionnaires, and focus groups-were administered to both in-service and pre-service teachers in each of the cases; I also analyzed the assessment and English courses syllabi. Findings from the empirical study show that although there has been some progress in the training in assessment in Colombian language teaching programs, this is not enough. In addition, despite the acknowledgement of the importance of formative assessment and the need for summative assessment in the classroom, there seems to be a disregard for the latter and a non-coexistence of them both. This might imply low levels of LAL. Finally, the proposed model of a knowledge base of LAL for pre-service language teachers in Colombia emphasizes the commitment of in-service teachers to explicitly model assessment practices in their language lessons as a complement to the training offered in the language assessment courses included in the curricula.Publicación Acceso abierto Caracterización de un currículo bilingèue colaborativo enfocado hacia la competencia comunicativa intercultural(Universidad de los Andes, 2017) Pabón Suárez, Silvia Rocío; Truscott de Mejía, Anne Marie; 198983; Rico, Carlos; Varon, MarthaThis current research is a qualitative study focuses on critical participatory paradigm. Cazucá - Soacha(Universidad de los Andes, 2017) Vargas Sánchez, Juan Carlos; Truscott De Mejia, Anne Marie; 198983; Ramírez Espinosa, Alexander; Tejada Sánchez, Martha IsabelThe main purpose of this emporic study was to analyze how Extensive Reading (ER), influencies the reading comprehensive level in the english study as a foreign language (FL), in the students of eleventh grade from the Institución Educativa Cazucá, interacting with short texts through the social network Facebook used as an ICT tool. Therefore, under the reflection of my pedagogical practice, I formulate the following research question: How the implementaron of extensiva autonomous reading activities, proposed through the social network Facebook, has influence on the level of reading comprehension in english as a foreign language, in the students of eleventh grade from the Institución Educativa Cazuca? As for the results, I could understand that imparting knowledge in a traditional, structural and focused way to the grammar of school texts, did not allow the progress of young people in the work of reading comprehension and more difficult with the short time available. In the contrary, through a different strategy proposal, students were empowered to develop their own communicative competence from the reading comprehensivo of authentic texts in a foreign language. I believe that the main objective was achieved; It was possible to identify the incidente in the level of reading comprehensivo in LE of the activities based on Extensive Reading, using the social network Facebook as a tool in the service of education, through this strategy of reading that motivated, empowered autonomy and offered students the freedom to make decisions for the benefit of their own process. That is why the positive incidente of ER is identificó by gradual getting students to talk with the text presented in a foreign language, taking advantage of the particularity of the authentic texts that proved to have real meaning for students. The results of this research demostraste that the practice of extensive reading is highly beneficial for the development of a foreign language.
