"Very often images and stories told in the media stick to us like splinters in our minds. Feeling pain, anger, powerlessness, or sadness becomes unavoidable, and we are forced to live with the burden of those images and what they make us feel. Is this the price that we have to pay for information? What are we supposed to do more than feel bad towards the pain of others, and constantly regret the world in which we have to live? Would it be better being apathetic or numb to tragedies that people have to live? And if we get fully convinced of the negative impression news give of our reality, what is left for us to do? Still we keep looking maybe pushed by attraction, curiosity or by our social duty of keeping ourselves informed. ... Maybe we are part voyeurs, cannibals, martyrs, sadists, and caring philanthropes while we consume these images and the tragedies which they represent. Resumen
"En muchas ocasiones las imĆ”genes y las historias narradas en los medios de comunicaciĆ³n se adhieren como astillas a la mente. Se hace inevitable sentir dolor, rabia, impotencia o tristeza y vivimos con esas imĆ”genes y lo que desencadenan en nosotros como con una gran carga. Ć SerĆ” este el precio que se paga por la informaciĆ³n? Ć QuĆ© se supone que debemos hacer mĆ”s que sentirnos mal frente al dolor de los demĆ”s y lamentarnos por el mundo en el que vivimos? Ć SerĆ” mejor ser apĆ”tico e insensible a las tragedias que viven cientos de personas? Y si nos convenciĆ©ramos del oscuro panorama que los noticieros interpretan de nuestra realidad Ć QuĆ© nos quedarĆa? Aun asĆ, seguimos mirando tal vez impulsados por la atracciĆ³n, la curiosidad o por el deber social de mantenernos informados. ...Tal vez todos seamos parcialmente voyeristas, canĆbales, mĆ”rtires, sĆ”dicos y solidarios filĆ”ntropos al consumir estas imĆ”genes y las tragedias que representan.
