El trabajo analiza el relato de viaje de Nicolás Tanco Armero, el primer neogranadino en visitar China, durante el siglo XIX. Se enfoca en cómo Tanco construye la otredad del sujeto chino a través de sus experiencias y narrativas. Este análisis se enmarca dentro de un contexto más amplio de estudios sobre la literatura de viajes y la alteridad, utilizando herramientas digitales y bases de datos relacionales para procesar y analizar las fuentes primarias. En el primer capítulo, se examina la estructura narrativa del escrito de Tanco, identificando el uso de recursos narrativos y metatextuales que el autor utiliza para darle forma a su obra. La narración se configura como una herramienta clave para traducir y hacer comprensible la experiencia del otro (el chino) a los lectores occidentales. En el segundo, se aborda cómo Tanco percibe y representa los espacios que visita. Su visión está profundamente influenciada por sus experiencias previas y su contexto cultural occidental, lo que determina su interpretación de la otredad china. Se explora la relación entre el espacio físico y la construcción de la identidad del otro. Finalmente, se analiza cómo Tanco construye la imagen del sujeto chino a través de comparaciones con su propia cultura. Utiliza constantemente referencias a su espacio de experiencia occidental para describir y entender las diferencias culturales y sociales que observa en China. Este proceso de comparación y contraste es fundamental para la creación de la otredad en su relato. Este es el primer producto de una serie que será complementada en una segunda tesis de investigación/creación.

The work analyzes the travel narrative of Nicolás Tanco Armero, the first New Granadian to visit China in the 19th century. It focuses on how Tanco constructs the otherness of the Chinese subject through his experiences and narratives. This analysis is framed within a broader context of studies on travel literature and otherness, using digital tools and relational databases to process and analyze primary sources. In the first chapter, the narrative structure of Tanco's writing is examined, identifying the use of narrative and metatextual resources that the author employs to shape his work. The narration is configured as a key tool for translating and making the experience of the other (the Chinese) comprehensible to Western readers. In the second chapter, the focus is on how Tanco perceives and represents the spaces he visits. His vision is deeply influenced by his previous experiences and his Western cultural context, which determines his interpretation of Chinese otherness. The relationship between physical space and the construction of the identity of the other is explored. Finally, the analysis shows how Tanco constructs the image of the Chinese subject through comparisons with his own culture. He constantly uses references to his Western experience to describe and understand the cultural and social differences he observes in China. This process of comparison and contrast is fundamental to the creation of otherness in his narrative.
